Almograve to Zambujiera 22 km

 10/21/21

What a great day, last night we stayed at a place that had a washing machine ,so we finally washed our clothes. Woke up this morning and they were still wet.

Personally, I didn’t care so I put wet clothes on as I knew they would eventually dry,  well, today was our first chilly morning, so who froze his butt off for the first hour, meeeeeeee!

The way was a lot firmer under foot and the views were magnificent. Most of the day we stayed high on the cliffs, and we found a rest stop and coffee when we made it to Cavaliero, just before the lighthouse  at Cabo Sardao.

Bill and Patty decided to hang their wet hiking clothes on the back of their packs, anyone coming up behind us would have thought they were hosting a garage sale, I think bill was dragging half of a Woolworths Dept Store on his back.

We are coming into the Sweet Potato capital of Portugal and it was so interesting to see them harvesting the potato’s today. This weekend is the sweet potato festival and I can’t wait to see the festival queen,  or not.

The towns today are tiny hamlets to be honest, so a festival is a big deal

Heading south to Entrada da Barca, we traversed through forest and fields of Rock Rose. the rock Rose plants always look wet, but the leaves are covered in this sticky glue which make it look wet, any bug that lands on a leaf is there forever.

Comes a time when you ask yourself, when is enough, enough, and I’m talking about photos. Of the coast. Seems every corner has a new fantastic vista.

After about 20 Kim’s the way turned down a pretty dangerous walk way into a cute fishing por, stopped for a break and a beer before moving onto our town for tonight, Zambujiera.

The walk was firm and it felt like home again. I’m a happy walker and along the way we are meeting other walkers. Had dinner tonight with Craig from Alaska, and Laura from Hawaii. Apparently they don’t drink, well, until tonight anyway. What lively people. Sometimes ,this is what the walk is about, interacting with like minded walkers.

Before dinner, Bill and Patt and I grabbed some wine, walked to the cliffs, and had a drink while watching the sunset. How grateful am I to be able to do that with great friends.
