Algizur to Arrifana
10/24/21
We stayed in last night, got some Vino Verde ( green wine) some local red wine , couple cheeses, tomato’s ,local bread, local meats and had dinner in the room. Good time.
Got going early but the temperature had dropped quite a bit overnight, makes for a brisk pace right out of the gate.
We climbed through town and past the castle at the top, along the canal and into the next valley.
The old church when leaving town was the sight to see in the morning sun, it was closed to we couldn’t get in, today wasn’t a long day, so we decided to take a route that brought us into the town next to where we were staying, just for a look, it also afforded us a chance to walk along the bank of the local reservoir, the water was tempting but I didn’t jump. I was feeling a little rambunctious today so I think had Bill been closer, he might have push3d me in.
One thing we should not have done, was follow google earth, it put us on a path after the lake, that disappeared in a jungle of weeds, we were all bleeding by the time we came out.
We turned an easy day into a bit of a nightmare, but the sea port village of Arrifana where we stayed was unbelievable. It was tiny, on the beach, and had a great feel about it.
We made the best of our time there, because tomorrow is the longest leg of the walk. 24 km if we don’t mess up.
As you get closer to the end maybe a good friend from Taz will have booked a Parador (or the Portuguese equivalent) for you all 🤔
